Out of all the fashionistas in our first meeting in winter quarter, Aria’s ruffle coat really caught my eyes. And when I noticed her statement accessories, in contrast to her romantic outfit, I honestly couldn’t wait to take pictures of her and share her look on our blog. Coincidentally, on that day Steven also gave us a presentation about new trends in Spring 2010, which includes ruffles. So I find it relevant to talk about her look and hopefully inspire some of you.
Here is a short interview about Aria and what “fashion” means to her!
Name: Aria
Class Standing: Freshman
Major: Biology, maybe?
Hometown: Woodinville, WA
Hobbies/Interest: Fashion, of course. I do a little sewing but mostly I just like being with friends and family, eating and traveling.
How would you describe your style? It's romantic and girly, I guess. I'm always attracted to ruffles, light fabrics, florals, lace. I think I'd like to toughen it up a bit.
Who/What inspires you in terms of fashion? So many things! I really love everything street/model/blog style to the high fashion editorials in Vogue Paris.
Who is your fashion idol? I admire a lot of people's styles. Right now I'm digging Kate Moss, the Olsen twins, Zooey Deschanel, and Alexa Chung.
Where do you like to shop? Nordstrom, Anthropologie, Zara, online
Where did you get this outfit (including accessories, shoes…etc)? Coat from Anthropologie, blouse from Diane Von Furstenberg, J Brand jeans, shoes from Tory Burch, rings from Forever 21 and Pier 1 Imports, bracelet from the Spoon Man at the Bumbershoot Musical Festival.
Any fashion tips or Fashion Do’s and Don’ts? Say no to Ugg boots (unless you're having a bad day)
What motivates you to dress up? I dress up, for the most part, because it's fun. :)
What are some trends you love/hate now? I'm not sure if this is still a trend but I really hated harem pants. Not flattering.
After getting to knowing Aria a bit, let’s get to the main part!
What I like the most about Aria’s outfit are the ruffles and her statement accessories. Here are two outfits I put together, inspired by Aria.
Outfit #1
I think this is a classic “ruffle” look that immediately screams “spring!” I’m in love with this romantic pink top, and I paired it with white jeans instead of the normal black or blue ones, which create a totally different look (I still don’t own a pair of white jeans, but after putting together this inspirational outfit, I am dying to get one now!). I also decided not to go with skirt, because it would perhaps have too much “cuteness” if we put ruffles and a skirt together. And although the outfit is simple, the gold accessories and glitter heels would definitely grab attention. My tip is to not over-do. Less is more ;)
Outfit #2
Aria told us that she’d like to “toughen [her style] up a bit”, and I think she did a great job with her statement accessories! But in this outfit, I also chose a less-romantic-ruffle coat along with destroyed black jeans. And of course, heels not only add up a few inches to your height, but also make you look sexier and more mature. So if you’d like to add some ruffle elements into your outfit but prefer a “stronger” look, this may be the right choice for you.
Hope you guys like our first article in the “UW Fashionistas” series, and if you’d like either write an article for this series or be featured, please keep reading.
I want to write for this column!
I have sent out a basic format for writing for this column in the beginning of last quarter I believe, so you can just simply follow the format and save it as a draft on this blog. If you didn’t get the email I mentioned, please let me know and I’ll send you one.
I want to be featured in “UW Fashionistas”!
Upload your outfit on our facebook group, and one of us will write an article inspired by YOU! We prefer one full-body picture and some detailed shots, like the ones in this article.
Thanks! Can’t wait to hear from you guys! :)
stay fashionable,
sharon xx
